Overview
Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking an energetic, adaptable, and solution-oriented Survey Crew Chief in Western New York. The position requires taking and following instructions while also thinking independently. Join our Survey/Geospatial team, which offers a full range of survey and geospatial data and mapping services.
Responsibilities
- Plan and perform advanced field surveys within the defined project scope and budget, using the most efficient methods, and in accordance with applicable standards of practice.
- Interact with project site supervisors and client field representatives.
- Prepare accurate, detailed field notes and reports of daily activity in a timely manner.
- Perform in-field calculations for construction stakeout and various land surveys with minimal assistance from office support team.
- Prepare or receive from the Project Manager, the Health and Safety Checklists. Review and instruct other crew personnel on all safety hazards, PPE, etc. associated with the work being performed.
- Maintain, transport, and operate the instruments and equipment associated with surveying land and preparing the job site for a survey.
- Operate and maintain the survey vehicle in accordance with the Company vehicle manual.
- Mentor and train junior field staff to facilitate career advancement.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of field survey experience and at least 2+ years of experience as a Crew Chief, or equivalent knowledge.
- Candidates must be proficient with data collectors, data collection techniques, robotic instruments, conventional field note-keeping, total stations and leveling.
- Experience with civil surveying and construction staking required.
- Experience with or ability to learn the use of 3D scanners.
- Candidate must be a self-starter, with little need for supervision once provided with a work assignment.
- Must be able to work in inclement weather.
- Travel required (50%).
- A valid driver's license and clean driving record required. MVR will be checked and monitored.
- Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
- Requires a pre-employment drug screen and will require ongoing participation in the employer's random drug and alcohol testing program.
Pay
$30.00 to $40.62 per hour (depending on qualifications)
