Instructor Responsibilities

Provide instruction for Surgical Technology and Sterile Processing program courses as assigned.

Collaborate with employers to maintain, update or revise course curriculum as needed to maintain program currency and relevance.

Prepare and maintain laboratory equipment, instruments supplies, and simulation materials.

Oversee students in laboratory settings to ensure laboratory safety and compliance with infection prevention standards.

Coordinate and oversee student clinical learning experiences in affiliated healthcare facilities.

Communicate regularly with clinical instructors, preceptors, and affiliate representatives regarding student progress and program expectations.

Assist in student placement and clinical scheduling as assigned.

Coordinate clinical site visits and maintain documentation related to clinical education.

Maintain accuracy of student records and reports as requested by administrative offices and accreditation partners.

Identify students needing assistance and refer students to Student Services.

Collaborate with Student Services and the Learning Resources staff to help students adjust to the learning environment.

Engage in outreach to healthcare organizations and high school partners to recruit students for the programs.

Collaborate with employers to assist in job placement for graduates.

Prepare and update course syllabi using BTC guidelines for each course taught and work cooperatively with members of other departments and programs in coordinating courses.

Demonstrated ability to interact with diverse populations.

Proficiency in instructional methodology, curriculum design, and program planning preferred.

Demonstrated knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, sterile technique, and practice.

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to oversee students in classroom, lab, or clinical settings.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field required.

Applicants with an associate degree in Surgical Technology and actively working toward a bachelor's degree may be considered.

Graduate of a Surgical Technology Program accredited by a nationally recognized programatic accrediting agency.

Credentialed as a Surgical Technician through a national certification program accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).

Minimum of two years of experience within the past five years, either in an operating room scrub role or as an instructor in an accredited surgical technology program, or a combination of both required.

Post-secondary teaching experience preferred.
