Surgical Technologist - Open Heart

Responsibilities

• Fulfills aseptic technique standards within the surgical setting.
• Arranges operating room equipment and supplies according to surgeons' preferences and procedure requirements.
• Fulfills sponge, needle, and instrument count policies and procedures.
• Collects and prepares tissue and lab specimens for pathology.
• Pulls preference cards and marks supplies used in room setup using the computer.
• Maintains a comprehensive understanding of all specialty areas, roles, and responsibilities of the Surgical Technologist.
• Trains and mentors new staff members in the chosen specialty area.
• Maintains effective communication skills and ensures proper resource management.
• Maintains a secure environment, handling and labeling medications under supervision.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider credential from the American Heart Association (AHA) within 30 days of hire or job transfer.
• Certified Surgical Technologist credential from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) prior to hire or job transfer (preferred).
• High school diploma or GED.
• Completion of an approved Surgical Technologist program prior to hire or job transfer (preferred).
• Two (2) years of current surgical technologist experience required.
• Five (5) years of relevant experience preferred.
