Surgical Technologist - Neuro/Spine OR - Neuro Expansion

We are expanding with a new, one-million-square-foot, 15-floor, state-of-the-art facility on Cleveland Clinic Main Campus designed to elevate care for complex neurological conditions — including spine injuries, epileptic seizures, movement disorders, multiple sclerosis, and stroke. This advanced building brings every stage of care under one roof, featuring dedicated spaces for outpatient services, surgery, stepdown, ICU, epilepsy monitoring, operating rooms, and expanded ambulatory, infusion, imaging, EMG, sleep, and rehabilitation services.

As a Surgical Technologist, you will play an essential role in delivering safe, high-quality surgical care by assisting surgeons and Registered Nurses throughout a wide range of operative procedures. You will cross-train in both Neuro and Spine and float between both service lines. Responsibilities

• Perform scrub functions and assist in circulating functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN).
• Set up the sterile table and ensure appropriate supplies, drugs, and equipment are available.
• Assist RN in counting all sponges, instruments, etc. at appropriate times during surgery.
• Assist in gowning and gloving surgical team members and draping patients.
• Ensure aseptic condition is maintained by the scrubbed surgical team through the procedure.
• Participate in the intraoperative “timeout.”
• Collect, identify, and label specimens removed during surgical procedures and give specimens to circulator for disposition.
• Prepare the operating room by organizing supplies and equipment, setting up sterile instrumentation, performing surgical counts, draping the sterile field, passing instruments during procedures, preparing sterile dressings, and cleaning instruments for terminal sterilization.

Requirements

• Graduate of a Surgical Technology Program, accredited through Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) OR completion of military surgical technology program.
• Certification of either CST or TS-C required for candidates who have not completed an accredited Surgical Technology program:
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
  • Certified Tech in Surgery (TS-C) through the National Center for Competency Training (NCCT)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.

Physical Requirements

• Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
• Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
• Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds and ability to push, pull, and navigate supply carts weighing more than 75 pounds periodically.
• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
• Requires working under stressful conditions or irregular hours.
• Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Schedule

• Works days from 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM or 10:00 AM – 8:30 PM, with on-call requirements.
• Orientation will take place for three to six months from 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday-Friday.

Pay

Pay Range Minimum hourly: $28.50

Maximum hourly: $39.00

The pay range displayed reflects the anticipated range for new hires. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set, and education. The pay range does not include applicable pay practices (e.g., shift differentials, overtime, etc.) or the value of Cleveland Clinic’s benefits package (e.g., healthcare, dental and vision benefits, retirement savings account contributions, etc.).
