Job Description

Status: 1.0 FTE (Full-Time)

Shift: 10 hours, plus variable weekend on-call requirement

Responsibilities

  • Affords assistance to surgeons during operative and invasive procedures.
  • Maintains readiness of the operating suite for each procedure.
  • Monitors PAR (Parts Available Ready) levels of all surgical instruments and supplies.
  • Cleans and sterilizes all surgical instruments.
  • Manages medications under the supervision of the surgeon or nurse.
  • Participates in departmental staff meetings and performance improvement activities.

Knowledge/Experience

  • Minimum of three years of experience as an operating room technician or certification in OR technology.
  • Ability to operate independently as an operating room scrub in all surgical specialties.

Education

  • A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
  • A surgical tech two-year program graduation is preferred.

Nurses' Requirements

  • Nurses caring for orthopedic and spine patients must adhere to defined educational and competency requirements in compliance with DNV Orthopedic and Spine certification.
  • Nurses must complete specialty-specific education and validate competency annually.
  • Nurses are expected to engage in continuing education activities relevant to orthopedic and spine care, including updates on clinical guidelines, emerging technologies, and best practices.
  • Education areas may include, but are not limited to: Musculoskeletal system anatomy and physiology, ERAS Pain management strategies, Mobility and safety, Prevention of complications such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT), infection, and pressure injuries, Glucose management, Compartment syndrome.

Licenses/Certifications/Registries

  • A current BCLS (Basic Life Support) Certification is required.

  • Ability to achieve cognitive, organizational, and emotional maturity to handle multiple tasks, stresses, deadlines, difficult situations, and/or customers.
  • Possesses interpersonal/communication skills necessary for effective, non-judgmental, and empathetic patient care and customer relations.
