Job Description
Status: 1.0 FTE (Full-Time)
Shift: 10 hours, plus variable weekend on-call requirement
Responsibilities
- Affords assistance to surgeons during operative and invasive procedures.
- Maintains readiness of the operating suite for each procedure.
- Monitors PAR (Parts Available Ready) levels of all surgical instruments and supplies.
- Cleans and sterilizes all surgical instruments.
- Manages medications under the supervision of the surgeon or nurse.
- Participates in departmental staff meetings and performance improvement activities.
Knowledge/Experience
- Minimum of three years of experience as an operating room technician or certification in OR technology.
- Ability to operate independently as an operating room scrub in all surgical specialties.
Education
- A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
- A surgical tech two-year program graduation is preferred.
Nurses' Requirements
- Nurses caring for orthopedic and spine patients must adhere to defined educational and competency requirements in compliance with DNV Orthopedic and Spine certification.
- Nurses must complete specialty-specific education and validate competency annually.
- Nurses are expected to engage in continuing education activities relevant to orthopedic and spine care, including updates on clinical guidelines, emerging technologies, and best practices.
- Education areas may include, but are not limited to: Musculoskeletal system anatomy and physiology, ERAS Pain management strategies, Mobility and safety, Prevention of complications such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT), infection, and pressure injuries, Glucose management, Compartment syndrome.
Licenses/Certifications/Registries
- A current BCLS (Basic Life Support) Certification is required.
