About the role

The Perinatal Surgical Technologist 2 plays a crucial role in the surgical team, supporting the Labor and Delivery Clinical Advisor and Registered Nurses. This position involves a wide range of tasks that contribute to the quality of care provided to patients undergoing surgical procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain a sterile field.
  • Maintain sterile technique (Surgical Conscience).
  • Utilize equipment, instruments, and supplies for more complex procedures.
  • Assist the surgical team with various tasks including holding retractors, sponging, suctioning, cutting sutures, and drape preparation.
  • Accountable for supplies, equipment, and environmental support in a cost-effective manner.
  • Identify and circulate specimens for processing.
  • Count instruments, sharps, and sponges.
  • Clean and prepare instruments for sterilization.
  • Remove soiled instruments and equipment.
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Aware of patient rights and legal, moral, and ethical implications.
  • Maintain stock in operating room supply carts and specialty carts.
  • Recognize and report problems related to kits or equipment, assisting in developing corrective action plans.
  • Contribute to the cleanliness and order of the unit.
  • Return kits and supplies to proper areas within the unit.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Certificate 1: CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) required.
  • Certificate 2: Basic Life Support required.
  • 1-3 years related work experience.
  • Graduate of an accredited education program for surgical technologists or completed a training program in the United States Military or Public Health Service.
  • Maintain a certified surgical technologist credential administered by a nationally recognized surgical technologist credentialing body accredited by the National Commission on Certification of Healthcare Professionals and recognized by the American College of Surgeons and the Association of Surgical Technologists.
  • Maintain annual mandatory education requirements, including emergency skills and unit-based competencies.
  • Basic familiarity with computers.
  • Ability to navigate web-based applications.

Qualifications

Pay

The pay range for this position is $38.33 - $56.95 per hour. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, including seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, and additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
