About the role
Performs scrub nurse duties and participates as a member of the surgical team, as directed. Assists Registered Nurse in the nursing care of surgery patients.
Responsibilities
- Prepares Operating Room for each surgical procedure as per OR policy and procedure.
- Sets up and maintains surgical equipment including: autoclave, ESU, Hypo/Hyperthermia Blanket, Athrombic Pump, CO2 Insufflator and System 1 Processor.
- Ensures OR is supplied with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies and equipment necessary for each surgical procedure.
- Assists with preparation and maintenance of instruments processed in Central Sterile Processing.
- Ensures equipment is functioning properly prior to use and informs management of equipment malfunctions.
- Assists with surgical set-up including the connection of suction, electrical cords, power cables and electrocautery equipment.
- Maintains and organizes sterile instrument table and/or mayo tray.
- Follows aseptic technique for opening and setting up of sterile supplies and field.
- Performs scrub role for surgical procedures.
- Establishes and maintains a sterile field and monitors the aseptic techniques of the surgical team; documents accordingly and takes corrective action, as necessary.
- Gowns and gloves other scrubbed members of the surgical team.
- Performs sponge, instrument and sharps counts per policy and procedure and notifies RN or Head Nurse of any discrepancies.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
- Successful completion from a nationally accredited educational program for surgical technologist, and holds and maintains a certified surgical technologist (CST) credential administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), required.
- Must be and remain in good standing with NYS regulations, required.
Qualifications
- Minimum of one (1) year of OR Technician experience, preferred.
