Surgical Technologist - Baroness Hospital - Full-time

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the Surgical Technologist serves as a vital member of the OR team, responsible for direct and indirect care of the surgical patient.

Responsibilities

• Function as a member of the surgical team responsible for obtaining surgical supplies and preparing the surgical field.
• Maintain procedure sterility throughout surgical operations.
• Collaborate with medical, anesthesia, managerial, nursing, and clinical staff to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served.
• Assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret information needed to meet age-specific needs.
• Provide care as described in the unit’s policies and procedures.
• Participate in competency evaluations through direct observation, skills labs, verbal or written discussions, peer review, or self-assessment.

Requirements

• High School education or equivalent.
• Must maintain certification as a surgical technologist from a national certifying body recognized by the health facilities commission, or obtain certification within eighteen (18) months after completion of a surgical technology program.
• Documented evidence of surgical technology training through the U.S. Armed Forces, National Guard, or U.S. Public Health Service may be accepted in lieu of certification.
• Qualification as recognized by the State of TN is acceptable.
• BLS certification completed prior to assignment and maintained thereafter.

Preferred

• Experience as a surgical technologist.
