Surgical Technician

Responsibilities

• Consistently collects and utilizes available data necessary for the proper preparation of the surgical suite for specific surgical procedures.
• Demonstrates an application of basic and current knowledge to perform assigned functions.
• Demonstrates a knowledge and understanding of sterile/aseptic techniques.
• Performs proper sponge, sharps, and instrument counts according to policy and procedure, demonstrated by a lack of occurrences.
• Maintains a safe surgical environment, assuring overall cleanliness of the surgical suite, proper placement of supplies to insure a safe traffic pattern, and verifies sterile processing through validation of integrity of sterile packaging.
• Maintains patient confidentiality and provides safe patient care through clear communication and collegial working relationships.
• Demonstrates knowledge of current trends and practices in the health care field, utilizing available educational materials, and professional development opportunities.
• Utilizes materials and equipment in a safe, therapeutic, and cost effective manner.
• Consistently checks all equipment for working order and reports any unsafe condition.
• Participates and complies with the results of quality assurance audits and findings.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• PREFER: One (1) year of Operating Room surgical technician experience/surgical technician exp. preferred.

License, Registration, Or Certification Requirements

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
