Responsibilities
- Accurately and in a timely manner fills unit dose cart, floor stock, medication orders, and delivers to patient care areas.
- Keeps automated medication cabinets stocked and up-to-date.
- Prepares I.V. admixtures using sterile technique.
- Accurately compiles prescriptions for pharmacist review and dispensing.
- Pre-packages and labels bulk medications for unit dose / unit of use dispensing.
- Maintains cost-effective inventory of bulk items, utilizing soon to expire items quickly and reducing overstock.
- Demonstrates technical proficiency in calculations, aseptic technique, and cytotoxic drug properties.
- Ensures timely and accurate patient billing and compliance with regulatory agencies.
- Alerts pharmacy director, coordinator, clinical coordinator, or pharmacist of immediate issues needing corrective action.
- Screens nursing and physician inquiries and directs to appropriate pharmacists for accurate and timely communication.
- Performs special projects and other activities to enhance service, skill level, and productivity.
Requirements
- Ability to communicate effectively in English.
- Proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Office.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Enrollment in an approved Surgical Technician Program.
- Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS).
Qualifications
- 1+ year of experience in a surgical setting preferred.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and local, state, and national laws.
- Familiarity with practices such as Malignant Hyperthermia, Surgical Site Infection Prevention, Emergency Code Cart, high and low level disinfection, Clinical Alarms, Medication Management, Isolation Precautions, Fire Safety, AIDET, and SBAR.
- Basic skills related to aseptic/sterile technique and knowledge of surgical instrumentation.
- Up-to-date knowledge of surgical instruments, supplies, and commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the health care industry.
- Knowledge of assembly of mechanical devices and fundamental human anatomy.
