Surgical Techician -BMC - Temporary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Temporary Surgical Technician to join our surgical team. The ideal candidate will provide essential support to surgeons and other medical personnel during surgical procedures, ensuring the operating room is properly prepared and responding effectively to emergency situations.

Responsibilities

• Directly accountable for preventing hospital-acquired infections related to hand-hygiene performance of self and staff.
• Assists the operating surgeon in the care of patients in surgery and performs assigned selected duties under direct supervision.
• Prepares for surgery in an acceptable timeframe, prioritizing workload and preparing for specific operative procedures using appropriate Preference Care/Case Cart Requisition.
• Demonstrates acceptable standards of aseptic technique when scrubbed, with a working knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, supplies, and equipment needed.
• Responds appropriately to unanticipated or emergency situations that may arise intra-operatively and assists with CPR during cardiac arrest.
• Utilizes equipment properly according to manufacturer’s recommendations and OR protocols, ensuring the OR is stocked and ready for each case.
• Assures equipment is cleaned and maintained for use by the next staff member and/or patient.
• Follows hospital policy and procedures for discarding contaminated and hazardous materials.
• Maintains established hospital policies, procedures, directives, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of practice.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalency.
• Graduate of an Accredited Surgical Technology Program approved by CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) or ABHES (Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools).
• Minimum of 3 years of recent surgical technician experience in an operating room setting.

Qualifications

• BLS certification by the American Heart Association (AHA).
• Surgical Technician Certification (CST) authorized by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA). Certification must be current and maintained.
• Must be able to provide proof of certification and experience.
• Must be able to provide professional references.
• Must be able to work temporary assignments.

Schedule

• 4x10s (four 10-hour shifts per week) plus on-call for 80 hours.
