Job Specific Competencies

• Prevent hospital acquired infections related to hand-hygiene performance of self and staff
• Assists the operating surgeon in the care of patients in surgery
• Performs assigned selected duties
• Prepares for surgery in an acceptable time frame
• Prioritizes workload and prepares for the specific operative procedure
• Utilizes Preference Care/Case Cart Requisition
• Demonstrates acceptable standards of aseptic technique when scrubbed
• Shows working knowledge of the surgical procedure, instrumentation, supplies and equipment needed
• Responds appropriately to unanticipated or emergency situations intra-operatively
• Aids in performing CPR of a patient during cardiac arrest
• Uses equipment properly, according to manufacturers recommendations and adheres to OR protocols
• Ensures OR is stocked and ready for each case
• Affirms equipment is cleaned and maintained for use by the next staff member and/or patient
• Maintains established hospital policies, procedures, directives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control standards appropriate to this position
• Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of practice

Education + Experience Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalency
• Graduate of Accredited Surgical Technology Program approved by: CAAHEP - Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or ABHES - Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools

Credentials + Qualifications

• BLS by approved by AHA - American Heart Association
• Surgical Technician Certification (CST) Authorized by: NBSTSA - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting
