Job Specific Competencies
- Prevent hospital acquired infections related to hand-hygiene performance of self and staff
- Assists the operating surgeon in the care of patients in surgery
- Performs assigned selected duties
- Prepares for surgery in an acceptable time frame
- Prioritizes workload and prepares for the specific operative procedure
- Utilizes Preference Care/Case Cart Requisition
- Demonstrates acceptable standards of aseptic technique when scrubbed
- Shows working knowledge of the surgical procedure, instrumentation, supplies and equipment needed
- Responds appropriately to unanticipated or emergency situations intra-operatively
- Aids in performing CPR of a patient during cardiac arrest
- Uses equipment properly, according to manufacturers recommendations and adheres to OR protocols
- Ensures OR is stocked and ready for each case
- Affirms equipment is cleaned and maintained for use by the next staff member and/or patient
- Maintains established hospital policies, procedures, directives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control standards appropriate to this position
- Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
Education + Experience Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalency
- Graduate of Accredited Surgical Technology Program approved by: CAAHEP - Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or ABHES - Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools
Credentials + Qualifications
- BLS by approved by AHA - American Heart Association
- Surgical Technician Certification (CST) Authorized by: NBSTSA - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting
