About the role

Winchester Hospital is a 5x Magnet designated, Top 10 Massachusetts recognized 223-bed regional hospital and the leading provider of comprehensive health care services in the northwest suburban Boston area. This position is part of the Patient Care Services – Labor & Delivery Team.

Responsibilities

  • Retrieve and review case cart to ensure all physician-requested supplies, instruments, and equipment are available and sterile for use in case.
  • Open sterile supplies according to aseptic technique in preparation for the surgical procedure.
  • Scrub for cases according to established sterile procedures; change into operative clothing, wear sterile gown and gloves, and assist surgeons with same.
  • Prepare and maintain a surgical field.
  • Assemble equipment and instrumentation based on the surgical procedure.
  • Assist in surgical procedures, anticipating, planning for, and responding to the needs of the patient, surgeon, and other team members.
  • Efficiently disassemble sterile field and instrumentation in preparation for decontamination.
  • Perform complete and accurate counting procedures to promote optimal patient outcomes and reduce patient harm.
  • Move and transfer patients to and from stretchers and beds.
  • Assist the surgical team by positioning the patient and retracting tissue and other bodily parts, as directed.
  • Appropriately follow the chain of command and adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with the healthcare team utilizing established handoff procedures.
  • Give and accept respectful feedback to enhance teamwork.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited or US Armed Forces Surgical Technologists school and/or program or employed as a Surgical Technologist at a surgical facility on or before July 1, 2013.
  • Preferred: At least one year of operating room scrub experience.

Pay

The base hourly wage range for this position is $33.50 - $45.09. Actual compensation is determined based on factors such as seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, and other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices.

Schedule

This is a 36 hour/week position on the day shift, including weekend and holiday rotations.
