Surgical Services - Sterile Processing Tech - FT

Directs the preparation of instruments and supplies in a safe and cost-effective manner within the standards, policies, values, and mission of the organization.

Responsibilities

• Monitor the performance of staff members to ensure that they are following proper procedures
• Review the sterilization methods used by the facility to ensure that they meet sterilization standards
• Ensure that all sterilization equipment is functioning properly and order repairs when necessary
• Ensure that sterilization processes meet regulatory requirements such as sterilization cycle time and temperature
• Train staff members on proper sterilization procedures
• Work with staff and instrument vendors to determine the best sterilization methods for instrumentation used at the facility
• Conduct training sessions for staff members on sterilization techniques
• Review sterilization records for accuracy and completeness, and make any necessary corrections
• Oversee central sterile supply inventory and routine maintenance of equipment and instruments
• Develop, with the Director of Surgery, policies and procedures related to the sterile processing unit
• Identify and troubleshoot equipment performance issues and determine the need for service and/or repairs
• Communicate with service representatives to coordinate any equipment repairs/servicing that is required
• Provide feedback to the Director of Surgical Services regarding budgetary considerations and opportunities for improvement
• Provide insight, direction, and act as a resource for sterile processing throughout the organization, including clinic processes
• Demonstrate responsibility for care of instruments/equipment, including cleaning and processing of instruments
• Demonstrate thorough knowledge of instrument processing, sterilization, biological monitoring, and chemical monitoring
• Monitor and promote a safe environment during care and maintenance of instruments
• Perform all aspects of Sterile Processing and Central Services in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors
• Assist the Surgical Services team to plan and evaluate procedural needs to optimize outcomes and maximize available resources
• Collaborate across disciplines to coordinate appropriate supplies for procedures
• Identify barriers to effective communication based on psychosocial, literacy, financial, and cultural considerations
• Precept new hires

• Work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age (21 for driving positions)
• Must be able to legally work in the United States
• Must be able to pass a background check
• Must be able to pass a drug screen and breath alcohol test (if applicable)
• Must complete employee health meeting

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
• Completion of a sterile processing technician course required within 2 years of hire
• CRCST certification preferred
• Minimum of two years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician

Pay

$18.41 to $27.26 per hour
