Surgical Services Equipment & Instrument Specialist
About the role
The Surgical Services Equipment and Instrument Specialist supports the surgical team by ensuring all necessary equipment, instrumentation, and supplies are available, functional, and ready for use on the day of surgery. This role also serves as a key liaison between Surgical Services and Supply Chain, focusing on product evaluation, standardization, education, and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Ensure availability and functionality of standard and specialized surgical equipment and instrumentation
- Serve as the primary liaison between Surgical Services and Supply Chain for equipment, instruments, materials, and disposables
- Support product evaluations, trials, and standardization initiatives to improve quality and cost effectiveness
- Cook with inventory management, special orders, and equipment repairs
- Coordinate with Sterile Processing, OR staff, physicians, vendors, and Supply Chain partners
- Maintain and optimize surgeon preference cards
- Provide education, training, and troubleshooting support for OR teams
- Assist with value analysis, utilization review, and sourcing activities
- Scrub in on cases as needed to maintain clinical expertise and support staff development
Requirements
A high school diploma is required, with an associate degree preferred. A graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program with current CST certification is required, and must hold a CST IV, Specialized CST, or higher per organizational CST ladder (Internal).
Expert knowledge of surgical procedures, equipment, and instrumentation is essential. Experience with supply chain processes, inventory management, and preference cards is also required.
Qualifications
