Surgical Scheduler
About the role
This position involves managing surgical scheduling and coordinating pre-admission testing within the department. Duties include establishing and monitoring a detailed calendar for surgeons, ensuring optimal use of operating room time, assisting with urgent and emergent surgeries, and communicating with patients and their families.
Responsibilities
- Schedule all cases in a timely manner and manage OR time efficiently
- Monitor and adjust schedules to maintain full procedure times
- Coordinate and schedule testing needed before surgery
- Communicate with patients and their families regarding upcoming procedures
- Confirm patient procedures with clinical staff
- Maintain inventory of patient instructions and educational materials
- Coordinate patient care with various clinics and staff
- Obtain phone consent and coordinate care for DHHR patients
- Scan legal documents into EPIC System
- Arrange for pre-certification with third-party payers
- Complete missing information and provide request forms for medical procedures
- Refer patients requiring financial assistance to social services and financial counselors
- Update the DEPOT weekly with case information and scheduling issues
Requirements
High school graduate or equivalent. State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas. One (1) year medical office experience with scheduling responsibilities preferred.
