About the role

The Orthopedic Clinic is seeking a dedicated results-driven candidate with previous experience in surgical authorizations, interventional pain procedures, and insurance verification to join their dynamic team as an Surgical Insurance Authorization Coordinator. This position works onsite directly under the supervision of the Revenue Cycle Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Create a smooth flow of information between patients and the clinical team by validating insurance eligibility and benefits, securing referrals and authorizations for surgeries/procedures, and patient education.
  • Communicate with physicians and department staff regarding authorization issues and contact insurance companies via phone and/or web to verify client's medical benefits.
  • Establish an effective workflow to ensure insurance-based authorizations are obtained for all diagnostic procedures.
  • Provide basic clinical information in patients' charts to justify medical necessity and follow up on all referrals requested by providers in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma with at least two years of medical experience in an accredited health care facility.
  • At least one year prior surgery authorization experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and EHR software applications, preferably Athena.
  • Valid Driver’s License, Clean Driving Record, and Proof of auto insurance.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of physician billing, out-of-network benefits, collection administration, industry and government regulations, and reimbursements.
  • Exemplary customer service skills, problem-solving abilities, and strong attention to detail.

Skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities effectively.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record-keeping.
