About the role
The Surgical Assistant plays a vital role in the perioperative team, supporting surgeons during procedures as a surgical technician or circulator under RN supervision. They are responsible for maintaining a sterile environment by applying aseptic principles, assisting with supplies, equipment setup, and patient positioning.
Responsibilities
- Performing scrubbing tasks
- Assisting with surgical closure
- Operating sterilization equipment
- Ensuring safety protocols are followed
- Collaborating with the surgical team to coordinate intraoperative activities
- Helping plan patient care
- Supporting room turnover
Requirements
- Associate’s Degree in Surgical Technology or a Certificate of Completion
- 2+ years of OR scrub experience
- BLS certification
- Either CSA, Licensed Surgical Assistant, or CST certification
Skills
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology
- Aseptic techniques
- Assisting during various surgical tasks such as suctioning, tying, and retraction
