Surgical Assist / Preservationist (1099 Independent Contractor) San Jose

About the Role

This position provides surgical assistance and organ preservation for donor grafts. Individuals will assist in all aspects of organ procurement, including packing supplies, OR set-up using aseptic technique, proper organ packaging per OPTN guidelines, and adherence to Paragonix/Transplant Advocate policies and protocols. This role is open to candidates based in the San Jose area.

Responsibilities

• Pack supplies for procuring OR and meet the team at a pre-determined location.
• Be available for recoveries on scheduled call days.
• Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and regulations.
• Recover donor grafts in compliance with the policies, rules, and regulations of all Transplant Advocates, Paragonix clients, and their medical and surgical staff.
• Participate in hospital and medical staff committees dealing with donor issues as requested by affiliated transplant centers.
• Collaborate with Quality and Operations staff to develop best practice protocols.
• Train and evaluate new team members in collaboration with the rest of the team.
• Demonstrate expert knowledge of all Paragonix devices and support teams in their use when not involved in a service case.
• Provide first-in-class customer service and communication with multi-discipline teams.
• Utilize and train others on the Paragonix App or other communication methods.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science or equivalent experience in a transplant-related field.
• Experience in pre-operative and post-operative care of transplant donor and recipient patients for at least 20 heart transplants and 20 lung transplants in a UNOS-approved transplant program, or cumulative experience of at least 20 thoracic transplants over the last 2 years.
• ABTC certification as a CPT or CPTC.
• At least 3 years of transplant experience in an operating room.
• Ability to safely and consistently lift up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to travel by multiple means, both private and commercial, including ground and air.
• Must be able to respond to an operational hub within 2 hours or a major commercial airport within 1 hour.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).
• Certification as a CSFA or RN First Assistant (RN FA).

Pay

The pay rate is $1000 per case.
