Surg Tech First Assist

Surgeons Choice Medical Center is a patient-centered, physician-owned healthcare facility specializing in hand, joint, orthopedic, and sports medicine. Founded in 2004 by a group of Metro-Detroit surgeons, we focus on delivering exceptional patient care in a small, manageable environment with 30 surgical beds and 6 operating rooms.

About the role

The Surgical Tech First Assist works in a dual role as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) and a First Assistant. You will prepare instruments, supplies, and the operating field for procedures while performing routine and delegated duties to support surgeons during operations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare instruments and supplies according to the physician’s documented preferred routine.
• Prepare the operating field for procedures, including surgical scrub preparation, patient positioning, and draping.
• Maintain a sterile field during surgery.
• Assist in exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions to ensure safe operations with optimal patient results.
• Skillfully suture tissues and tissue planes using appropriate materials and techniques.
• Assist in or independently close wounds under the surgeon’s direction.

Primary services performed at our Southfield location include Orthopedic, Ortho Neuro, General, ENT, and GYN.

Requirements

• Successful completion of an AST-certified Surgical First Assistant Program or 3+ years of First Assistant experience.
• Experience in Orthopedic and Hand surgery specialties.
• Associate degree in a Surgical Technology-related field preferred.
• AST Surgical First Assistant certification preferred.
• Current BLS certification required.

Schedule

10-hour shifts, 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM.
