Surg Tech

13-week contract in Sheboygan, Wisconsin – 12-hour evening shift (1800-0600), 36 hours per week. On-call and callback required (six 12-hour shifts per six weeks). Weekend rotation and holiday coverage expected.

About the Facility

131-bed Level IV Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center.

• LDRP unit: 12 beds, 2 triage rooms, 2 ORs, 10-bed Level II NICU
• Average census: 60-80 births per month

Responsibilities

Registered Nurse (RN)

• Provide 1:1 care for laboring patients, 1:2 for active labor, 1:3 for couplets
• Perform cervical exams, amnio infusions, epidurals, fetal monitoring, IV starts/management, Pitocin administration
• Assist with baby delivery, APGAR scoring, and basic breastfeeding education
• Manage all aspects of postpartum care from transition to discharge for both mother and baby
• Care for patients with diagnoses including hypertension, magnesium administration, substance abuse medication management, elevated BMI, and diabetes

Surgical Technologist (Surg Tech)

• Assist with cesarean sections, vaginal deliveries, and occasional OBGYN surgeries (e.g., tubal ligation)
• Perform CNA-type tasks: stocking rooms, assisting patients with ADLs
• Maintain aseptic surgical technique; prepare materials, supplies, and equipment for surgery

Requirements

Experience

• RN: 2+ years LDRP experience
• Surg Tech: 2+ years surgical tech experience, competent with c-sections and OB procedures
• First-time travelers accepted

Licenses & Certifications

• RN: BLS, NRP, intermediate or advanced fetal monitoring
• Surg Tech: BLS (CST not required)

Skills

• Basic computer proficiency and strong customer service/interpersonal skills

Department Support

• 2 Techs, 1 HUC (no charge nurse; all nurses take patients)
• Phlebotomy available in L&D
• Anesthesia, NNP, OBGYNs, RT, and hospitalist on call 24/7
• 1 lactation consultant available during the day (meets with every patient pre-discharge)
• Management available during daytime hours

Technology & Equipment

• EMR: Epic (preferred for RNs)
• IV Pump: Alaris
• Medication dispensing: Pyxis
• Monitors: QS Centricity

Orientation & Scheduling

• 1-2 days of new employee orientation plus unit orientation based on comfort level
• Schedule set by lead RN, 6 weeks at a time, provided 2 weeks in advance
• Weekend rotation: every 4th weekend
• On-call: no holiday rotation; RTO requests approved with 7 days’ notice
• Shift times: 0645-1915 or 1845-0715
