Scope and Purpose of Position
The purpose of this position is to fine, polish, manually apply a lens block to the lens front and apply lens coating according to work instructions.
Essential Functions
- Powers up equipment and performs equipment validation process.
- Operates multiple fining and polishing machines simultaneously.
- Fines lens for predetermined amount of time according to lens material.
- Verifies the polish temperature.
- Loads the blocks in the blocking stations and ensures the blocks are flush with the plate.
- Releases alloy onto lens, monitor process, block and place both blocked lenses back into appropriate tray for further processing.
- Loads two lenses at a time into machine to complete automatic cleaning for coating process.
- Removes lenses from machine and dry front of lens.
- Review for imperfections and places lenses in the tray.
- Makes sure the auto-blocker is running correctly and troubleshoots machine errors.
- Picks up alloy, blocks and work from polishing stations as needed.
- Initials the surface equipment verification log to confirm machine validation.
- May rotate among other functions within the department.
Practice and Compliance
- Comply with all requirements of our Quality Management System (QMS).
- Prescribed safety and hazardous materials handling procedures.
- Federal/State laws regulating hazardous and non-hazardous waste disposal.
Education & Experience
- A high diploma or GED is preferred.
- Minimum 1 year of related manufacturing experience is preferred.
Competencies
- Able to read English to understand written procedures, hazardous warning, etc.
- Basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division skills.
- Logical thinking in following procedures and instructions.
- General problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work varying schedules to include nights, weekends, holidays and overtime.
Physical Demands
- Stand, use hands and fingers to handle, feel, pick or pinch, and talk or hear most of the time.
- Occasionally stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
Work Environment
- The noise level in this location is moderate (use of computers, printers and machines).
