About the Role

Oak Plains Academy is a comprehensive and highly structured 98-bed residential treatment program offering psychiatric residential treatment services to children and adolescents struggling with emotional and behavioral issues. Residents receive an individualized treatment plan, geared to meet their personal needs. The campus is located on 20 acres of rolling hills in a rural setting, about 45 minutes from Nashville, Tennessee, and features a full-size gymnasium, dining hall, separate academic building, and four dormitories.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the overall care and documentation of resident care on assigned unit(s), ensuring staff follow Oak Plains Academy’s policies, procedures, and program fidelity standards.
  • Participate in Shift Administrator duties, including notifying appropriate leadership (AOC, etc.), completing incident reports, auditing patient rounds, and reviewing end-of-pay-period punch details.
  • Perform multiple daily reviews of Q15 observation sheets for timeliness, accuracy, and completion.
  • Ensure all required documentation is completed accurately, thoroughly, and in a timely manner.
  • Serve as the point person in emergencies or crises, facilitating shift activities and providing appropriate crisis intervention.
  • Utilize verbal de-escalation techniques to address disruptive or dangerous behaviors; as a last resort, employ techniques taught in Handle with Care training.
  • Oversee and direct the unit to promote the highest level of physical, mental, and psychosocial functioning of residents.
  • Closely monitor all interactions and behaviors (staff and residents) to ensure a safe and conducive environment for positive change.
  • Respond to crises, assist in the proper implementation of protective holds, and ensure proper notification and documentation.
  • Protect and enforce resident rights at all times.
  • Participate in interviewing, training, and providing on-the-job coaching and redirection for staff; contribute to employee performance appraisals.
  • Communicate significant changes in resident condition to the Director of Residential Services and others as required.
  • Manage shift overtime, communicate with leadership to fill callouts, and report to work if needed to meet staffing/milieu needs.
  • Understand and assist with state licensing regulations, The Joint Commission standards, HIPAA policies, and other relevant laws or regulations.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of company policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Sociology, Education, or a related field (preferred), or a technical degree in allied health.
  • Minimum: High School Diploma or equivalent, plus one year of experience in mental health with demonstrable competence in the required responsibilities.
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing.
  • Satisfactory health, strength, and stamina to meet the physical, mental, and emotional demands of the role, including walking, running, standing, lifting, and assisting with protective restraints.
  • Completion of "Handle with Care" training (required for the position).
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Flexible schedule, including the ability to attend a two-week orientation (Monday through Friday, 08:30 am – 4:30 pm).

This role requires a successful background check, fingerprinting, and employment verification.
