About the role

Responsible for the day-to-day operation, supervision, and administration of the child care and development facility. Ensures compliance with Pinellas County License Board, The Early Learning Coalition of Pinellas, The Office of Early Learning, Juvenile Welfare Board and all other contracting and governing bodies. Participates in the development, implementation and maintenance of program quality assurance and quality improvement processes. Acts as a role model supervisor by maintaining the highest quality professional behavior in interactions with superiors, community, other staff and clients as well as adherence to superior documentation practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Associate’s degree with 2 years’ experience as a lead teacher or assistant director
  • 45 clock hours & CDA mandatory
  • Directors’ credentials
  • Five years’ experience with young children 0 – 5 years old
  • Two years’ experience as child care director – preferred no required
  • Two years of Supervisory/ Managerial experience – preferred not required

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of developmental delays and methods of addressing problems
  • Knowledge of Pinellas County License Board, ELC and other related regulations
  • Knowledge of basic typing and computer skills
  • Ability to interact in a positive, productive and effective way with counselors, parents, medical personnel and clerical staff
  • Ability to apply appropriate observation and documentation skills
  • Knowledge of APPLE Standards of care for early childhood centers
  • Knowledge of substance abuse, violence and other prevention strategies and principles
  • Knowledge of culturally competent techniques and strategies
  • Ability to access and refer appropriately and to manage time and resources
  • Ability to interact positively and effectively with participants, staff, the community and other agencies
  • Ability to document in a timely, accurate, and quality manner in accordance with the rules, regulations, and agency standards
  • Ability to use de-escalation skills with various populations

Skills

  • Valid Florida Driver’s license
  • FL Dir. Credential
  • DCF Staff Credential or Florida Child Care Professional Cert. (formerly CDA)
  • Must pass a level II background check
  • Must pass a drug screen
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • HIV/AIDS training required every two years

Physical/Technical Skills

  • Ability to write accurately and legibly
  • Moderate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Windows-based computers
  • Accuracy in typing at least 40 words per minute
  • Sit at a desk and view a display screen for extended periods of time
  • Bend, stoop and reach
  • Lift and carry 10 pounds
  • Sit in meetings for extended periods of time
  • Move throughout program facilities both indoors and outdoors
  • Travel between both facilities (St. Petersburg / Largo) (Reasonable accommodation will be made for otherwise qualified individuals with a disability.)
