About the role
The Supported Employment Specialist works within the Supported Employment Program to support individuals through a comprehensive career development program that includes assessment, advisement, training, development, and career mapping. Specialists are self-starters performing community outreach, working collaboratively with the Supported Employment team to develop new participants and perform sustained case-management engaging participants with jobs and career development.
Responsibilities
- Coach individuals across diverse learning styles to connect with careers
- Lead training in job readiness and soft skills
- Work with job search engines, produce resumes, and teach soft skills
- Perform outreach to individuals and engage employers
- Collaborate with the team to reach program objectives
- Develop knowledge of employment trends, job search strategies, resume writing, interviewing, and soft skills
- Track program data, case notes, and documents within Salesforce database
- Other duties as assigned by Director of Workforce Development
Requirements
- An outgoing personality and ability to interact well with others is a must
- Syracuse city resident with strong community connections preferred
- Excellent verbal, writing, listening, and observational skills required
- Multi-lingual, multicultural abilities preferred
- Must be collaborative, able to prioritize activities, and manage time efficiently
- Professional, welcoming, compassionate demeanor required
- Proficiency with computer systems and ability to learn new systems required
- Human Services experience preferred
- Reliable transportation within the service area throughout the work day required
- Valid and clean NYS driver's license
- Able to pass criminal and DMV check upon hire
Skills
- Regular use of laptop computer, copier, phone, MS Office, Canva, Salesforce, Unite Us, and other software
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
- Ability to travel throughout service area, occasional exposure to outside weather
- Ability to work at a computer for extended periods and to attend meetings
