About the role

Supply Distribution Technicians play a key role in maintaining inventory and ensuring nursing units and patient care areas have the supplies they need. This position involves regular and emergency deliveries, inventory management, and data entry to support hospital operations.

Responsibilities

  • Inventory nursing units and determine supply needs to maintain established par levels; recommend par level adjustments based on usage patterns.
  • Select and deliver items to re-supply nursing units on a regular and emergency basis.
  • Receive supply requests from outlying patient care areas; fill orders and deliver or arrange for delivery.
  • Receive, record, and label incoming supplies with patient charge tags; stock supplies in central supply.
  • Wrap and autoclave supply items for storage.
  • Assist in inventory control processes, including maintenance and rotation of inventory.
  • Enter data into computer systems and maintain inventory databases (e.g., ESI or other inventory systems).

Requirements

  • Six months of experience equivalent to a Nursing Assistant or Stock Clerk in an acute care hospital.
  • Knowledge of equipment, instrumentation, and supplies common to an acute care hospital.
  • Understanding of inventory control concepts and applications, as well as supply storage standards and practices.
  • Ability to receive, store, and distribute medical supplies and equipment according to established standards and procedures.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to interact tactfully with staff and other hospital departments.

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Ability to stand and work for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and reach overhead.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to gather, stock, and distribute inventory.
  • Vision sufficient to distinguish between various instruments and supplies.
  • Capability to push distribution carts weighing up to 100 pounds and lift/carry supplies weighing up to 30 pounds.

Pay

Approximate salary range: $3,475.54 - $4,224.55 per month.

    • 10+ years: $10,000
    Employees may purchase additional term life insurance at the group rate.
  • 125 Flexible Benefits Plan: Voluntary program allowing pre-tax dollars for health-related expenses (Health Flexible Spending Account: $2,550 annual limit with $500 carryover) and dependent care costs (Dependent Care Assistance Plan: $5,000 annual limit).
  • Retirement Plan: Covered by the County Retirement Law of 1937. Visit SJCERA for details.
  • Deferred Compensation: Plan under Section 457 of the IRS code. Annual contribution limit: $22,500 (or 100% of includible compensation, whichever is less). Individuals age 50+ may contribute up to $30,000. Roth IRA (after-tax) also available.
  • Vacation:
    • Up to 3 years: 10 days/year
    • After 3 years: 15 days/year
    • After 10 years: 20 days/year
    • After 20 years: 23 days/year
  • Holidays: 14 paid holidays per year (effective July 1, 2017). Details in the applicable MOU.
  • Sick Leave: 12 working days annually with unlimited accumulation. Eligible for 8 hours of administrative leave if leave balance equals at least half of cumulative accrual and employee is on payroll for the entire calendar year.
  • Bereavement Leave: 3 days of paid leave for the death of a qualifying family member; 2 additional days for the death of a spouse, domestic partner, parent, or child.
  • Merit Salary Increase: New employees start at the first step of the salary range. Eligible for a merit increase to the next step after 52 weeks (2,080 hours) at each step.
  • Educational Reimbursement Program: Reimbursement for career-related coursework up to $850 per fiscal year. For approved 4-year college/university programs: up to $800 per semester ($1,600 max per fiscal year).
  • Parking Supplemental: County contributes up to $20 per pay period for employees who pay for parking and work in the Downtown Core Area.
  • School Activities Leave: Up to 40 hours per year (max 8 hours/month) to participate in children’s school activities.
