Supply Chain Engineer (Hybrid)

About the Role

PetSmart is seeking a strategic and experienced Director, Supply Chain Engineering to lead the strategy and execution of Industrial Engineering, Network Optimization, Capacity Planning, Automation, and Engineering Governance across its distribution network. The Director will develop engineering strategies designed to improve productivity, scalability, service levels, and cost performance while supporting long-term business growth. This role works closely with Operations, Transportation, Supply Chain Systems, Finance, IT, and other business leaders to deliver innovative engineering solutions and strengthen operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Engineering Leadership
  • Develop and execute the Supply Chain Engineering strategy.
  • Lead Industrial Engineering, Network Optimization, Capacity Planning, Automation, and Facility Design functions.
  • Establish engineering standards, governance, and best practices.
  • Build and develop a high-performing engineering organization.
  • Provide coaching, succession planning, and continuous improvement leadership.
• Network Optimization & Capacity Planning
  • Lead network design, facility planning, and optimization initiatives.
  • Improve throughput, capacity, service levels, and cost performance.
  • Develop long-range capacity strategies based on business growth, labor requirements, and operational constraints.
  • Support facility startups, expansions, and network redesign initiatives.
• Automation & Operational Excellence
  • Lead warehouse automation and material handling strategies.
  • Partner with Supply Chain Systems and IT to implement engineering and automation solutions.
  • Sponsor continuous improvement initiatives focused on labor productivity, operational efficiency, safety, and service performance.
• Analytics & Capital Planning
  • Establish engineering KPIs, scorecards, and analytics.
  • Develop business cases for automation, facility investments, and network improvements.
  • Manage engineering capital priorities in partnership with Finance and business leaders.
  • Use data and financial analysis to support strategic decisions.
• Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Serve as an engineering advisor to Supply Chain leadership.
  • Partner with Distribution Operations, Transportation, Inventory Management, Finance, Merchandising, Supply Chain Systems, and IT.
  • Align engineering priorities with broader enterprise objectives.
  • Present recommendations, investment opportunities, and engineering insights to executive leadership.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, Logistics, Business, or a related field required.
• Master's degree preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in Supply Chain or Industrial Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience leading engineering teams and enterprise operational initiatives.
• Experience with large-scale distribution networks, automation, facility design, network optimization, and capacity planning.
• Proven executive communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Strong financial acumen and business case development experience.
• Demonstrated change leadership capabilities.
• Professional certifications in Engineering, Supply Chain, Lean, Six Sigma, or Project Management preferred.

Work Environment

This is a hybrid position based at PetSmart's Phoenix Home Office. Employees are expected to work a minimum of four days per week in the office, with the possibility of one remote flex day with leader approval. The role requires regular collaboration and face-to-face interaction with colleagues, leaders, and cross-functional partners. Travel of up to 25% may be required.
