About the role
Responsible for delivering and retrieving equipment between the Patient Equipment Pool and designated patient areas. Cleans and decontaminates equipment in accordance with Mount Sinai Infection Control policies. Performs related record keeping functions as required.
Responsibilities
- Retrieve equipment from soiled utility rooms, patient rooms, and associated care areas, including infusion pumps, pain control pumps, sequential compression devices (Flowtron), enteral feeding pumps, refrigerators, patient tags, and other ancillary equipment as needed.
- Clean and decontaminate equipment and patient tags for recirculation into patient care areas.
- Retrieve, restock, and deliver Team 7000 carts and intubation boxes, including those with opened or expired medications and supplies.
- Deliver and retrieve bronchoscopes towers and associated equipment to and from the Sterile Processing Department.
- Fulfill equipment orders received through EPIC and via phone; ensure all documents are filled out completely.
- Deliver equipment requiring service/maintenance to Clinical Engineering and retrieve equipment when services are complete.
- Conduct daily inventory of equipment and maintain minimum levels to assure availability for patient care needs.
- Enter computer orders for new rental of beds and discharges.
- Perform equipment cleaning, testing, and storing of all equipment returned to the Patient Equipment Pool before reissue to patients.
- Demonstrate ability to set priorities, problem-solve, and use sound judgment in challenging situations; maintain flexibility.
- Maintain a safe, clean, functional environment, including keeping equipment and supplies neat and orderly.
- Conduct weekly inventory of supplies and ensure correct levels are maintained to complete restocking of Team 7000 carts and intubation boxes.
- Remove supplies from boxes and place them in the appropriate location.
- Greet visitors and answer telephones promptly and courteously; provide information when appropriate.
- Carry pager and/or Vocera pendant and respond to requests in a prompt and courteous manner.
- Exhibit interpersonal skills to communicate and collaborate effectively with coworkers and other members of the healthcare team.
- Retrieve bins used for reprocessing of disposable accessories.
- Conduct refrigerator rounds and document temperature logs as required.
- Document temperature readings of refrigerators used to store blood products in the Blood Bank.
- Perform other job-related duties as required.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Prefer 2 years working in a hospital environment.
