Supplier Quality Engineer - Press Parts
About the role
The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) for Press Parts and Structural Components plays a crucial role in ensuring that all sourced metal components meet Scout Motors' quality, timing, and delivery requirements. This role is pivotal in managing quality risks, developing robust manufacturing processes, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
Conduct thorough evaluations of potential suppliers to assess their capability, quality systems, and compliance with industry standards.
Collaborate with procurement and engineering teams to select suppliers that align with our quality objectives.
Establish and maintain quality metrics for Press Part /Structure components. Monitor supplier performance through regular audits, assessments, and quality control inspections.
Investigate quality issues related to suppliers, utilizing root cause analysis techniques to identify problems and implement corrective actions.
Develop and maintain quality documentation, including inspection plans, control plans, and work instructions specific to Press Part /Structure components. Ensure that all quality records are up-to-date and compliant with regulatory requirements.
Lead initiatives for continuous improvement in supplier quality performance. Facilitate training and workshops with suppliers to promote best practices in quality management.
Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to ensure quality standards are integrated throughout the product lifecycle. Participate in product development meetings to provide input on supplier capabilities and quality considerations.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or related field) or equivalent experience.
4–8 years of supplier quality experience in the automotive industry, preferably with press parts and structural components.
Strong knowledge of stamping, welding, structural manufacturing processes, and supplier quality systems.
Experience with APQP, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans, MSA, SPC, and root cause analysis.
Familiarity with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, VDA standards, and supplier auditing.
Proven ability to manage supplier launches, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Experience working cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Supply Chain teams.

Pay
Initial Base Salary Range: $95,000.00 - $120,000.00
Schedule
This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Columbia, South Carolina. This role requires 4-5 days per week in the office, with regular in-person meetings and events.
