Supplier Quality Engineer Lead (LRASM)
About the role
The Supplier Quality Engineer Lead will implement tools and processes to ensure suppliers improve on current products with robust plans and deliver first-time quality to BAE program customers. They will investigate, evaluate, and resolve supplier quality problems, including proactive management via defect trend analysis, preventative measures, and continuous improvement projects.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and assess the impact of nonconforming product and suppliers' corrective actions, including timely communication with the program team of both.
- Partner with the Category Supplier Quality team on problem-solving and root cause analysis activities with suppliers to eliminate recurrence of non-conformances.
- Perform Production Process Verifications (PPV's) at supplier locations and participate in PPAP review process and other aspects of APQP.
- Perform and Evaluate First Article Inspections per the requirements of AS9102 as well as train suppliers to meet BAE Systems expectations.
- Flow down contractual requirements to suppliers based on QMS/part/risk/customer requirements via quality clausings codes.
- Utilize supplier scorecards/metrics and analytical tools to quantify performance levels of individual suppliers and work with those suppliers to develop improvement plans to achieve 100% quality performance.
- Partner with supply chain to ensure proper selection of sourcing (throughout entire product life cycle) to mitigate risk and reduce overall cost of ownership of the parts.
- Collaborate with engineering, supply chain, and program quality to identify part and supplier risk for proactive mitigation activities.
- Support AS9145 deployment in key suppliers to mitigate program risks.
- Drive "Zero Defect" culture within the supply base.
Requirements
A self-starting problem solver who utilizes analytical skills to find innovative solutions to quality-related issues. Strong communication skills to ensure suppliers understand requirements and expectations, make progress reports, and present findings. Possesses a strong understanding of Quality Science tools (APQP/PPAP, 8D RCCA, Statistical Process Controls, Lean Six Sigma) along with relevant industry standards and their application to drive execution excellence. Relates well with individuals at all levels of the organization, builds appropriate rapport, fosters constructive and effective relationships, and collaborates with cross-functional teams. Mentoring and coaching required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with 4 - 6+ years of experience or 10-12+ years of experience in lieu of degree.
- Ability to analyze supplier defect/performance data and display visually.
- Read and interpret documents such as technical drawings, specifications.
- Excellent planning, time management and organization skills.
- Strong communicator capable of working through complex issues with peers, management and multiple functions.
- Proficient in MS Office Products including Word, Excel, Power Point.
- Experience in 8D/RCCA activities.
- Experience with requirements management and flowdown.
Skills
- Understanding of Quality Science tools (APQP/PPAP, 8D RCCA, Statistical Process Controls, Lean Six Sigma).
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards and their application.
- Experience with root cause corrective action investigations.
- Microelectronics Experience.
- Working knowledge of AS9100 or equivalent Quality Management Systems.
- Project management experience.
