The Tesla Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for driving supplier accountability for part quality issues impacting production. Key responsibilities include:
- Diligently manage and ensure closure for supplier corrective actions.
- Lead cross-functional teams to resolve quality issues related to Tesla electronics commodity vendors.
- Engage with suppliers to develop short-term and long-term corrective actions, including SCAR follow-up and management.
- Support data collection and analysis to identify failure trends and collaborate with various teams.
- Set priorities for suppliers and manage, implement, and track changes, capacity studies, and new product introductions.
- Lead and/or support new part introduction trials at general assembly shops.
- Identify trends and priorities by organizing and graphing data, and apply project management and systems engineering tools.
To bring value to the role, candidates should have:
- A degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent experience.
- At least 5 years of component or assembly plant experience in supplier quality, supplier development, process, quality, or manufacturing engineering roles.
- Experience in Electronic Top Level Assembly (TLA), PCBA (SMT), low and/or high-voltage power electronic systems, and PPAP/APQP processes.
- An advanced understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC), Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T), and Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Knowledge of quality problem-solving methods like fishbone diagrams, FMEA, process capability analysis, hypothesis testing, DoE, SPC, 8D, etc.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment, particularly in automotive.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, including the ability to communicate with management and suppliers.
- Ability to organize and analyze data, and execute projects using project management techniques.
- Travelability, especially internationally, to support supplier activities.
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills to build relationships with suppliers, peers, and other functional areas.
