Supplier Quality Engineer
About the Role
The Quality Supplier Engineer ensures the compliance of suppliers and subcontractors to meet Vallourec requirements. This includes auditing suppliers to required Quality Management Systems such as API Q1, ISO 9001, and additional management systems. The role operates in a collaborative environment, managing process auditing, driving corrective and preventative actions, and ensuring proper ownership and timelines for completions.
The position focuses on supporting the qualification of new suppliers and managing key suppliers/subcontractors currently supporting Vallourec business. It drives improvement in supplier quality management processes, breaks down internal silos, and supports harmonization to develop a single process for supplier management. The role ensures monitoring and management of quality criteria to meet industry and Vallourec requirements for API 5CT, API 5L products, and services.
Responsibilities
- Supports qualification of new suppliers/subcontractors and maintenance of existing ones.
- Collaborates with suppliers to ensure product quality standards are met and maintained.
- Schedules and conducts supplier audits and assessments to evaluate quality systems and compliance with industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001, IATF 16949).
- Develops and implements supplier quality improvement plans and corrective actions.
- Supports maintenance of the vendor list and monitors supplier performance using required KPIs in coordination with relevant teams.
- Reviews and approves supplier quality documentation; coordinates with technical specialists as required.
- Raises and drives closure of Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) with procurement teams, emphasizing root cause analysis and problem-solving for supplier-related quality issues.
- Works cross-functionally with procurement, manufacturing, and other departments to resolve quality concerns, update standards, and requirements.
- Supports development (products, services, and process flows) by qualifying new suppliers and participating in design reviews.
- Maintains documentation and records related to supplier quality activities and compliance with internal systems.
- Ensures adherence to regulatory and customer-specific requirements throughout the supply chain.
- Supports the broader quality organization and other Vallourec entities in various projects as assigned.
- Supports initiatives aligning the organization with governance standard updates and ensures supplier/subcontractor compliance.
- Drives initiatives to consolidate and standardize quality across all Vallourec legal entities.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in an engineering or quality-related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing Quality Management System (QMS) role.
- Lead Auditor certification/training (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, API Q1) preferred.
- Experience conducting audits.
- Preferred experience with API 5CT or API 5L.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Strong computer skills, including MS Office 365 Suite applications and the ability to learn new applications.
- Proficiency in using quality management software and tools.
