Supplier Quality Engineer

As a Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE), you will work in a partnership environment with suppliers, utilizing continuous improvement methodologies to support corporate and divisional quality objectives.
Responsibilities
- Own and lead Supplier 8D’s on all supplier product issues in an urgent and timely manner.
- Communicate effectively and timely with suppliers on product quality issues.
- Facilitate root cause analysis and corrective actions for supplier quality issues.
- Work directly with suppliers to create corrective action plans addressing process failures.
- Lead implementation of containment activities in plant for supplier-related issues.
- Support advanced teams during new launch transition phases.
- Ensure supplier quality meets required standards during new product launches.
- Validate supplier process controls for reliability and capability levels.
- Approve Supplier PPAP’s in a timely manner and manage yearly PPAP’s for carryover products.
- Coordinate required incoming inspections.
- Lead monthly supplier performance reviews for top poor-performing suppliers, monitoring corrective action plans.
- Lead supplier escalations in collaboration with the purchasing team for resolutions.
- Conduct supplier audits to ensure accuracy of internal systems and processes following Magna’s audit procedures.
- Coordinate and monitor cost recovery for supplier-related topics.
- Develop and obtain supplier-approved boundary/PPAP samples and maintain them throughout the production cycle.
- Participate in continuous improvement activities related to supplier products.
- Monitor and drive timely closure of supplier-initiated engineering change requests.
- Lead effective closure of supplier complaints through to disposition and financial renumeration.
- Participate in and lead root cause analysis for warranty returns, follow up with customers, and provide data analysis.
- Manage internal line rejections from root cause analysis through to supplier complaint closure, analyzing trends and driving corrective actions.
- Drive product improvement based on internal line rejects, OEM returns, and warranty issues.
- Set and drive quarterly goals to meet objectives, creating and maintaining performance KPIs.
- Meet all commitments, confronting and elevating issues in a timely manner.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in supplier quality development engineering, with a strong understanding of practices, principles, processes, and commodity manufacturing.
- Previous experience in the automotive industry.
- Proficiency in utilizing standard and specialized measuring equipment such as gages.
- Strong knowledge of PCB board assembly and fabrication (asset).
- Strong understanding of semiconductor devices and their characteristics (asset).
- Capability to calculate and analyze data, generate reports, and present information.
- Demonstrated knowledge of FMEA’s, APQP, PPAP, and Continuous Improvement (Kaizen).
- Ability to work independently with latitude for unviewed action or decision.
- Proven ability to lead and manage several large and complex projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and support others through training.
- Experience in researching, recommending, and overseeing the implementation of new products, materials, and processes.
- Minimal travel occasionally required (10-20%).
- Experience in a dynamic and fast-paced manufacturing environment with multitasking and prioritization skills.
- Proven experience working with cross-functional teams to complete daily tasks and projects.
- Effective communication skills for collaboration with team members, supervisors, and other employees.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
- Strong problem-solving skills to identify and troubleshoot issues.
