Supplier Quality Engineer
About the role
Gotion Inc. is seeking a dynamic Supplier Quality Engineer to manage quality aspects of suppliers related to ESS and power automotive lithium-ion batteries. Key responsibilities include conducting quality system assessments, guiding new supplier introductions, and managing supplier quality throughout the product lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Conduct quality system assessments (ISO 9001, IATF 16949) on potential suppliers.
- Supplier development:
- Guide new suppliers to establish a quality system meeting required standards.
- Provide necessary training on quality standards, inspection specifications, process control requirements, etc., and ultimately approve the supplier's PPAP.
- Quality planning in the supplier development stage:
- Collaborate with R&D, purchasing, and project teams to ensure supplier quality is controlled in new projects.
- Drive suppliers to complete APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning), PPAP (Production Part Approval Process), etc.
- Develop inspection standards for incoming materials.
- Deal with non-conforming incoming materials, analyze the causes, and promote supplier rectification.
- Quickly respond to supplier quality issues in production lines or customer feedback.
- Coordinate and promote suppliers to implement corrective and preventive measures.
- Track improvement and close issues.
- Collect and analyze supplier quality data (PPM, defect rate, return rate, etc.).
- Drive suppliers to develop and implement problem improvement plans (8D, 5Why, PDCA, etc.).
- Provide systematic assistance to suppliers when necessary to enhance their overall capabilities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Material Sciences.
- US Citizenship or a Green Card.
- 3+ years’ experience on supplier quality management, with experience in the power battery or energy storage battery industry preferred.
- Willingness to travel 25%.
- Familiarity with the production process and quality control points of cells (square), modules, PACK, BMS and key raw materials.
- Proficiency in ISO 9001, IATF 16949, VDA6.3 and other quality management systems.
- Proficiency in quality tools such as APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, and SPC.
- Ability to conduct problem analysis and solution methods such as 8D, 5Why, fishbone diagram, and DOE.
- Ability to perform failure analysis and guide suppliers in failure analysis.
