Supplier Quality Engineer
JOB SUMMARY
The Supplier Quality Engineer champions improvements with suppliers using analysis and implements corrections and improvements using quality tools such as Process mapping, SPC, FMEA, Six Sigma, Kaizens, A3s, fishbones, root cause analysis etc. The Supplier Quality Engineer monitors suppliers and ensures the management of the company's quality, process and/or business improvement efforts within the Supply Chain. They interfaces with Procurement / Purchasing to improve the relationship and performance with the supplier. The Supplier Quality Engineer will visit suppliers and be heavily engaged in ensuring product conformance and craftsmanship from suppliers. The Supplier Quality Engineer is also responsible for rate readiness assessments as well as approving and disapproving suppliers.
SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES
- Carrys out supplier validation audits, with supplier support and supplier advanced product quality planning (APQP).
- Works with Engineering (Design and Manufacturing Engineers) team to define process parameters and criteria to ensure supplier process capability is effective to meet product and process requirements.
- Champions improvements with suppliers using analysis and implements corrections and improvements using quality tools.
- Visits suppliers and is heavily engaged in ensuring product conformance and craftsmanship from suppliers.
- Facilitates root cause analysis and corrective actions of supplier quality issues.
- Performs on-site supplier visits for root cause analysis and verification of correction actions of supplier quality issues.
- Works with the supplier directly, create correction action plans to address process failures.
- Reviews supplier manufacturing processes, collaborate with suppliers on process improvement and value enhancement opportunities.
- Facilitates the escalation of unresolved supplier quality issues within assigned projects and suppliers.
- Assists the Quality Manager to monitor and report on supplier product quality and performance.
- Ensures the management of the company's quality, process and/or business improvement efforts within the Supply Chain.
- Reports on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in order to adhere to process and prevent occurrence of any non-conformity relating to product, process or system.
- Leads quality audits.
- Creates craftsmanship and inspection plans and drives requirements to suppliers.
- Participates in MRB and CCB.
- Reviews nonconformance reports with suppliers.
- Develops and maintains strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance.
- Communicates efficiently throughout the shop floor and with own and customers management.
- Undertake special projects as required.
- Contribute to continuous improvement activities.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in related field is required.
- Experience: A minimum of 3+ years of engineering experience in a Quality environment.
- Skills: Proficient with Microsoft Office® programs, Office, and with MRP systems. Advanced Excel skills, Knowledge of quality and business systems, Lean Manufacturing knowledge, Knowledge of measurement techniques, Understanding and interpretation of engineering drawings, Understanding manufacturing processes.
- Preferred Skills/Experience: Strong trouble shooting skills and communication skills, Advanced Spreadsheet building and Microsoft Office Skills, Ability to read engineering drawings, specifications and other related literature is necessary, Proficient with general quality systems and with the following tools: Process mapping, SPC, FMEA, Six Sigma, Kaizens, A3s, fishbones.
OTHER
- Extended or irregular hours may be required.
- Traveling and visiting suppliers is a requirement.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES
- ASQ Quality Engineer Certificate desired.
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY
Has no direct reports, however, the Quality Engineer is expected to lead improvement and corrective action events and provide guidance to inspection staff.
