Supplier Quality Engineer

About the role

As a Supplier Quality Engineer, you will work closely with our suppliers and purchasing group to focus on delivering the highest quality. You will be responsible for strategic quality systems, investigating, analyzing, and correcting quality, production, and control issues at supplier locations, as well as performing audits and implementing new strategies.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, support, and develop the Supplier Quality Team and assist with day-to-day production issues.
• Implement quality systems for production and the supply base.
• Advise and support Quality Technicians on day-to-day production issues and process controls.
• Collect and evaluate supplier quality data to identify process improvement opportunities within the supply chain.
• Work with suppliers directly to create corrective action plans to address process failures.
• Monitor supplier performance through indicators like PPM, repeat issues, and warranty to develop comprehensive strategies for improving poor-performing suppliers.
• Review and disposition supplier PPAPs.
• Communicate and instruct suppliers on corrective action processes and quality tools and techniques.
• Review supplier manufacturing processes, collaborate on process improvement, and identify value enhancement opportunities.
• Regularly communicate with Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Supply Chain teams internally to identify opportunities for quality and productivity improvement.
• Collect, maintain, and report on supplier performance metrics.
• Participate in Engineering Change meetings to ensure awareness of design changes and implement them in accordance with the PPAP process.
• Support visits to suppliers and assist the supply chain group in conducting supplier audits as needed.
• Prepare, update, and coordinate incoming inspection plans and receiving inspection activities.
• Create, issue, and complete Supplier Corrective Action requests and work with suppliers on RMA returns of defective materials.
• Support Engineering Change implementations with assigned suppliers.
• Provide support and analysis on special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
• Experience working in a machining and assembly environment.
• Strong skills and working knowledge of SAP (ERP) software.
• Working knowledge of quality analysis tools such as 8D, SPC, PFMEA, and others.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to teach basic problem-solving techniques and facilitate problem-solving team events.
• Experience in developing part certification processes (PPAP) and vendor quality measures.
• Knowledge of fabrication-based quality control methods, tools, and techniques.
• Strong data analysis and reporting skills.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and team-building skills.
• Effective time management and organizational skills in all circumstances.
• Self-motivated with a high level of initiative.
• Able to travel on an occasional basis (up to 25%).
