The Supplier Development Engineer role is focused on strengthening supplier capabilities and ensuring the successful delivery of advanced communication technologies. Key responsibilities include:
- Providing technical leadership to strategic suppliers, improving manufacturing maturity, resolving process challenges, and ensuring alignment between supplier capabilities and engineering requirements.
- Leading technical assessments of high-risk and specialized suppliers to identify process gaps, capability risks, and improvement opportunities.
- Conducting root cause analysis on complex supplier performance issues and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
- Developing and managing strategic supplier development programs for critical manufacturing partners.
- Supporting supply chain and engineering teams in identifying, evaluating, and selecting specialized vendors for advanced technology products.
- Partnering with sourcing, supplier quality, and engineering teams to optimize supplier performance and ensure successful supply outcomes.
- Coaching suppliers on process improvements, manufacturing best practices, and technical problem resolution.
- Facilitating collaboration between engineering teams and external manufacturing partners to improve product readiness and scalability.
- Traveling to supplier locations as needed to support technical reviews, process improvements, and sourcing initiatives.
- Maintaining strong documentation practices and communicating technical findings, risks, and recommendations clearly.
- Collaborating with global supplier relationships to bridge technical requirements across regions and teams.
Requirements include:
- Strong experience in supplier development, manufacturing engineering, and advanced display or electronics technologies.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
- 7+ years of experience in flat panel display, electronics manufacturing, process engineering, or related industries.
- Proven experience improving supplier processes and coordinating collaboration between design teams and external manufacturing partners.
- Experience conducting supplier assessments, root cause analysis, and implementing sustainable corrective actions.
- Ability to break down complex technical challenges into clear, actionable solutions.
- Strong analytical mindset with curiosity for understanding system-level behavior while maintaining attention to detail.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and technical documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and influence stakeholders across different functions.
- Advanced written and spoken proficiency in Japanese and English required for technical communication and documentation management.
- Mandarin Chinese proficiency is preferred to support broader APAC supplier collaboration.
