Summary
This Supervisory Medical Support Assistant position is in the Health Administration (MAS) service line at VA Maine Health Care System located at the Augusta - ME location.
Qualifications
- Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Be a citizen of the United States (U.S.).
- Experience: None.
- Education: High school diploma - General Education Development equivalency certificate - or proficiency certificate from a State or territorial-level Board or Department of Education.
- Licensure/Certification/Registration: None.
- Foreign Education: To be creditable - education completed outside the U.S. must be deemed at least equivalent to that gained in a conventional U.S. program by a private organization specializing in the interpretation of foreign educational credentials.
- English Language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with 38 U.S.C.7403(f).
- Grandfathering Provision: Employees in VHA in this occupation - under a permanent - appropriate - and legal placement on the effective date of the qualification standard - are considered to have met all qualification requirements for the grade and/or assignment held, including positive education and registration/certification where applicable.

- Position serves as a Supervisor for Medical Support Assistants at the VA Maine Medical Center.
- Responsible for planning, directing, and controlling work for the lower grade Medical Support Assistants.
- Works collaboratively in an Interdisciplinary Coordinate Care delivery model (Patient Aligned Care Team - or Specialty Care Setting).
- Duties may include - but are not limited to:
- Set and adjust short-term priorities.
- Prepare schedules for work completion.
- Establishes work priorities.
- Identifies developmental training needs of employees - Provides or arranges for training - Reviews work produced.
- Analyzes weekly reports to evaluate production and takes appropriate action.
- Conducts regular staff meetings with the medical support assistants.
- Serves as point of contact for resolving patient issues especially regarding appointment and scheduling concerns.
- Maintains clerical guidelines and manuals.
- Preparation of material to be used in training new employees.
- Responsible for training auxiliary personnel such as temporary, work study, and volunteers used for intermittent heavy workload areas.
- Offers expert advice on administrative details and procedures.
- Presents findings to the Supervisor and respective Service Line designees for corrective action.
- Ensures subordinates serve as the initial point of contact.
- Performs work involving collection, compilation, and/or tracking of data and statistical information.
- Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm or 8:00am - 4:30pm.

Pay
- Competitive salary and regular salary increases.
- When setting pay - a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
Benefits
- Annual paid time off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave - 13 days of sick leave - 11 paid Federal holidays per year).
- Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
