About the Role

This position involves direct oversight of administrative personnel responsible for processing military service applicants, ensuring efficient operations, and maintaining compliance with standard procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provide training on various topics to stakeholders and subordinate staff.
  • Maintain applicant records to ensure the safekeeping of personally identifiable information (PII) and protected health information (PHI).
  • Distribute mission-focused work assignments to subordinate staff to maintain efficient operations.
  • Evaluate employee performance to support development and accountability.
  • Conduct inspections to ensure applicant processing accuracy, file compliance, and adherence to standard operating procedures.
  • Coordinate between multiple sections to ensure processing is completed within standards.
  • Make recommendations on initiatives to improve military processing functions.
  • Utilize web-based software systems, including the Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS, to access and update records.
  • Perform temporary duty (TDY) business travel, including occasional overnight assignments.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • May require working occasional Saturdays and/or shift work (before 0600 or after 1800 hours).
  • May require unscheduled overtime to accommodate fluctuations in workload based on daily mission requirements.
  • Must successfully complete the applicable Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training within 30 days of on-boarding.
  • Must possess the skills of a qualified typist with a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5-minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Must comply with Selective Service Registration requirements if applicable (male applicants born after December 31, 1959).
  • This position requires a 1-year probationary period.
  • Direct deposit of pay is required.

Qualifications

To qualify, you must meet the following requirements:

  • At least one year of specialized experience, which includes:
    • Performing quality review of applicant records or personnel documents.
    • Utilizing automated systems to update military human resources personnel records.
    • Providing guidance or training to stakeholders on military human resources procedures.
    • Leading a group or team to ensure assigned tasks are completed.
  • This experience must be equivalent to the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
  • No substitution of education for experience is permitted for this position.
  • Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
