About the role

The Supervisory Criminal Investigator serves as the National Response Team (NRT) Supervisor for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives' NRT Regions. The NRT Supervisor has specific and functional responsibilities within his/her area of assignment and is also often called upon to perform special studies and/or projects (all related to the law enforcement mission of ATF).

Responsibilities

  • Oversees all operational, interview and intelligence functions at all NRT activations or on occasion other regions as directed.
  • Supervises up to 30 special agents, who are tasked one with performing substantive criminal investigative work.
  • Manages and directs a large staff of criminal investigators and clerical support, overseeing their work for effectiveness in conducting division operations and activities.
  • Manages all aspects of NRT activations and evaluates team performance.

Requirements

  • Must be U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Selective Service registration is required for males born on, or after, December 31st, 1959.
  • May be required to serve a one-year probationary period.
  • Pass drug screening and subject to random drug test.
  • Suitable for Federal employment determined by background investigation.
  • Must meet all applicable time-in-grade requirements by the closing of this announcement.

Qualifications

  • To qualify for the Supervisory Criminal Investigator (NRT Supervisor) position at the GS-14 grade level, candidates must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-13) by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Specialized experience is demonstrated experience, which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position.
  • Experience must be in the normal line of progression or must be related to the work of the position advertised and must be reflected in resume.
  • Specialized Experience Must Include All Of The Following:
    • Applying law enforcement investigative techniques in order to direct a major field component;
    • Executing and coordinating criminal enforcement programs;
    • Making operational decisions regarding investigations of a criminal nature;
    • Identifies and distributes workload to ensure completion of assignments.
