Duties Supervises engineering design technical efforts in accordance with mission requirements.Plans, schedules, and provides technical direction over professional and technical Section employees engaged in structural engineering design and technical management of project work.Duties require knowledge of structural engineering functions to serve as a technical point of contact on all aspects of planning and designs involving these disciplines.Performs work involving technical engineering design and management, project study, and/or reporting typical of and integral to the total engineering process.Exercises technical and administrative supervision over a workforce of approximately 16 subordinates of grades up through NH-03/GS-13.Confers with others to resolve problems of unusual complexity concerned with topographic, foundation, or other engineering matters related to structural design considerations.Assures quality of products through adherence to Corps of Engineers review requirements and Quality Management processes.Participates in dam and levee safety inspections, design, analysis, review, and quality assurance oversight in support of MVS’s hydropower mission, support design and analysis of miscellaneous flood control structures. Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.Position requires professional registration/licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA).Incumbent must be qualified to drive Government vehicles in accordance with Corps of Engineers standards. Additional information about transcripts is Minimum Qualifications For NH-03 In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes leading and/or directing teams through various phases of assigned engineering projects; reviewing engineering documents such as technical specifications, cost estimates, plans, and/or reports; and preparing designs and/or cost estimates for assigned civil works projects such as navigation locks, reservoir dams, and/or other related flood risk reduction infrastructure such as gravity drains, closure structures, or pump stations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (NH-02/GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job at the NH-03, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
