Supervisory Chemist (Tobacco Laboratory Director)
About the role
This Direct-Hire position is in the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and is located in the Office of Analytical and Regulatory Laboratories (OARL), Tobacco Products Laboratory (TPL) which serves the OARL and its field organization based on Office of the Chief Scientist's (OCS) scientific program needs and capabilities. The Laboratory Director manages all phases of the Tobacco Products Laboratory programs and analyses aimed at effective accomplishment of the Agency consumer protection mission.
Responsibilities
- Overseeing or directing laboratory analytical/scientific testing relating to tobacco or other regulated products analyses (such as human or animal foods or drugs)
- Managing laboratory operation, to include a quality management system
- Providing leadership to staff engaged in scientific laboratory work
Requirements
The position of Supervisory Chemist (Tobacco Laboratory Director) falls under the 1320 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-15, you must meet all requirements by 11:59 pm EST on 07/10/2026.
Qualifications
- Basic Requirements: Degree in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.
- Minimum Qualifications: Overseeing or directing laboratory analytical/scientific testing relating to tobacco or other regulated products analyses (such as human or animal foods or drugs); Managing laboratory operation, to include a quality management system; Providing leadership to staff engaged in scientific laboratory work.
