Responsibilities
- Develop and evaluate welding procedures
- Aid in the design of tooling and fixturing needed for welding operations
- Select base materials and welding materials
- Control the quality of produced welds
- Utilize welding codes and standards
- Manage personnel and provide supervision, including mentoring junior welders
- Enforce site and personal safety protocols
- Review and edit documentation, such as work reports and record keeping
- Supervise and offer daily support to the launch projects welding team
- Assess candidates and provide hiring recommendations
- Plan and schedule work, assign tasks, and assess completed work
- Maintain and approve employee timekeeping records
- Communicate performance metrics and provide collaborative direction to team members; recommend performance standards and ratings
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate
- 5+ years of professional experience with one or more of the following: gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), TIG, or gas metal arc welding (GMAW)
- 2+ years of experience in leading a team or a project
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience managing more than 10 employees
- Ability to interpret drawings and weld symbols per AWS A2.4
- Knowledge of AWS D1.1, D1.6, and D1.2
- Aluminum gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) and gas metal arc welding (GMAW) experience
- Technical trade school certificate
- Capable of cutting, polishing, and etching weld test samples
- Experience with Inconel welding and fabrication
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to pass Space Force background check for Cape Canaveral
- Ability to work a dedicated night shift (anticipated hours are 3:00pm - 1:30am)
- Ability to lift 25 lbs. unassisted
- Lifting, standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying are generally required to perform the functions of this position
- Ability to work at elevated heights (up to 300 feet), including the use of ladders
- Willingly operate heavy machinery
- Ability to work in confined spaces
- Typically exposed to work in extreme outdoor environments – heat, cold, rain, ice
- Work performed in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, and noise
