Responsibilities

  • Supervise the daily operations of the Blood Bank section to ensure uninterrupted workflow, availability of appropriate blood products in a timely fashion, accurate and timely results.
  • Maintain improved customer satisfaction.
  • Provides input in employee selection.
  • Mentors and supervises Blood Bank staff; evaluates staff performance & competency.
  • Evaluates staff educational development.
  • Ensures section compliance with all regulatory requirements actively by reviewing publications/standards.
  • Prepares, submits annual Blood Establishment & Product Listing to FDA.
  • Reports on-line blood product deviations or fatalities to FDA; reports bio-vigilance data monthly online to CDC.
  • Captains section participation in approved proficiency programs as required by regulatory agencies.
  • Develops and implements new procedures/policies.
  • Reviews/revises all policies & procedures at least annually.
  • Researches and analyzes new processes, vendors, blood/tissue suppliers, equipment, reagents & computer systems.
  • Provides information for preparation of capital equipment budget.
  • Designs, analyzes, and maintains the Blood Bank information system.
  • Responsible for all changes including design, analysis, testing, validation, implementation & training.
  • Functions as a technical consultant to laboratory staff, residents and physicians.
  • Responsible for resolution of technical problems.
  • Represents Blood Bank at hospital committees (ie. Blood & Tissue, Trauma).
  • Reviews section event logs and with the Medical Director, develops & monitors corrective actions.
  • Establishes monitors to improve quality service.
  • Participates in the PI program.
  • Holds regularly scheduled staff meetings to update and inform staff.
  • Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Minimum Experience: five years.
  • Certification: Medical Technologist, ASCP (or equivalent).

Skills

  • Knowledge of instrument troubleshooting (experience).
  • Strong written and verbal skills.
