Essential Functions
- Oversees daily workflow to ensure service standards are met and to ensure staff consistently follows standard job expectations and regulatory requirements.
- Covers work assignments and oversees monthly schedule.
- Serves as a resource to staff for issues surrounding instrumentation and sterilization.
- Participates in the hiring selection process.
- Collaborates with management to develop and implement policies, procedures and the business work plans for the department.
- Provides leadership and supervisory guidance in quality improvement efforts.
- Maintains and reports required regulatory records and quality assurance reports.
- Participates in the staff evaluation and disciplinary processes.
- Collaborates effectively with the Instrument Coordinator to assure seamless flow of surgical supplies and instruments.
Qualifications
- Education: Associate's Degree Healthcare or equivalent education/experience - Required
- Bachelor's Degree Healthcare or equivalent education/experience - Preferred
- Technical Program: Sterile Processing - Required
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of Experience in sterile processing, surgical services, and/or supply chain materials management - Required
- Minimum of 2 years of Experience in a leadership role either as a lead or supervisor - Required
- Knowledge: Knowledge of sterile processing and regulatory requirements.
- Experience: Previous leadership/supervisory experience
- Preferred: Previous leadership/supervisory experience
- Preferred: Previous experience with Ortho, Neuro, and General Surgical instrumentation.
- Preferred: Previous experience with Instrument Tracking Systems and Material Ordering Systems.
Skills
- Proficient use of computers including MS Office applications.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong administrative, organizational, and problem solving skills.
- Understands facility standards and practice guidelines as well as state and federal regulations.
- Ability to lead teams and delegate assignments.
- Ability to adapt in a dynamic work environment and make independent decisions.
- Demonstrate ability to work under stress while maintaining a courteous, tactful and professional manner.
- Advance knowledge instrumentation obtained as a Sterile Processing Technician or Surgical Technician.
- Must be able to work long hours and be available on-call as needed.
Working Conditions
- Lifting: Consistently operates computer and other office equipment. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work.
- Environmental Conditions: Predominantly operates in an office environment.
- Mental/Visual Ability: To communicate and exchange accurate information. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
