Supervisor Sterile Processing

Essential Functions

  • Oversees daily workflow to ensure service standards are met and to ensure staff consistently follows standard job expectations and regulatory requirements.
  • Covers work assignments and oversees monthly schedule.
  • Serves as a resource to staff for issues surrounding instrumentation and sterilization.
  • Participates in the hiring selection process.
  • Collaborates with management to develop and implement policies, procedures and the business work plans for the department.
  • Provides leadership and supervisory guidance in quality improvement efforts.
  • Maintains and reports required regulatory records and quality assurance reports.
  • Participates in the staff evaluation and disciplinary processes.
  • Collaborates effectively with the Instrument Coordinator to assure seamless flow of surgical supplies and instruments.

Qualifications

  • Education: Associate's Degree Healthcare or equivalent education/experience - Required
  • Bachelor's Degree Healthcare or equivalent education/experience - Preferred
  • Technical Program: Sterile Processing - Required
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of Experience in sterile processing, surgical services, and/or supply chain materials management - Required
  • Minimum of 2 years of Experience in a leadership role either as a lead or supervisor - Required
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of sterile processing and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience: Previous leadership/supervisory experience
  • Preferred: Previous leadership/supervisory experience
  • Preferred: Previous experience with Ortho, Neuro, and General Surgical instrumentation.
  • Preferred: Previous experience with Instrument Tracking Systems and Material Ordering Systems.

Skills

  • Proficient use of computers including MS Office applications.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong administrative, organizational, and problem solving skills.
  • Understands facility standards and practice guidelines as well as state and federal regulations.
  • Ability to lead teams and delegate assignments.
  • Ability to adapt in a dynamic work environment and make independent decisions.
  • Demonstrate ability to work under stress while maintaining a courteous, tactful and professional manner.
  • Advance knowledge instrumentation obtained as a Sterile Processing Technician or Surgical Technician.
  • Must be able to work long hours and be available on-call as needed.

Working Conditions

  • Lifting: Consistently operates computer and other office equipment. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work.
  • Environmental Conditions: Predominantly operates in an office environment.
  • Mental/Visual Ability: To communicate and exchange accurate information. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
