Responsibilities
- Oversee the activities and supervision of security officers by assisting with problems, providing direction, determining appropriate action, and disseminating information.
- Meet budgetary specifications and maintain a budget in conjunction with the manager or security operations.
- Collaborate and communicate utilizing shared goal setting and decision making with physicians, associate providers, department staff, and multidisciplinary team members.
- Serve as a focal point for emergencies and ensure a safe and secure environment.
- Participate in the hiring and training of new Security Officers.
- Perform routine security officer functions as needed, including utilizing a security vehicle, enforcing Mayo policies, responding to complaints and service calls, and preparing incident reports/activity logs.
- Work in Security control centers.
- Adapt to unpredictable and stressful situations; manage altercations and emergency crises effectively and professionally.
- Operate and communicate on a two-way radio.
- Exhibit good judgment, maturity, initiative, tact, and diplomacy when dealing with people in stressful situations.
- Frequently walk, stand, stoop, bend, lift, pull, climb, reach, and push; occasionally run.
- Move quickly up and down stairwells, from the ground floor to the top floor of each building without assistance.
- Assist with emergency evacuations, including handling emergency evacuation devices used to transport patients and others to safety.
- Make effective decisions as an emergency first responder and work as a team member with other emergency responders, including law enforcement and fire/rescue personnel.
- Work nights and weekends for security and protection assignments and when required by emergency or special situations.
- Support and instill Mayo Clinic's mission, vision, and values within the department.
- May be required to carry and deploy a taser.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with one year of security, healthcare, law enforcement, or military experience and two years of supervisory experience.
- Associate’s degree with three years of security, healthcare, law enforcement, or military experience and two years of supervisory experience.
- HS/GED with five years of security, healthcare, law enforcement, or military experience and two years of supervisory experience.
- Progressive experience in a healthcare/management role required.
- Experience in patrolling, incident report writing, defensive tactics, emergency response, lock/unlock procedures, door access, and CCTV camera operation.
- Experience with Windows XP or newer and intermediate skills in Microsoft Office software applications.
- Technical aptitude to work with Security Technology is preferred.
- Previous security experience; ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Strong sense of customer service and interpersonal skills to interact with patients, visitors, and employees.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and communicate effectively in a pleasant, courteous, professional, and friendly manner.
- Maintain a professional appearance at all times per organizational and department standards.
- Ability to restrain potentially violent individuals and remain calm while assuming control of emergency situations.
- Participate in routine and ongoing training and development programs as required.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record in accordance with Mayo Clinic Policy.
- Obtain Supervisory Level Certification from the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) within one year.
- Obtain certification in CPR/AED, Verbal Judo, and AVADE® within 6 months.
- Authorization to work and remain in the United States without necessity for Mayo Clinic sponsorship (e.g., U.S. Citizen, national, or permanent resident, refugee, or asylee).

Schedule
- Full Time
- Hours/Pay Period: 40
- Schedule Details: Incumbent will work a Monday through Friday, 3:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. shift. Schedule and work hours may vary based on the needs of the department.
- Weekend Schedule: Weekend shifts will be determined based on the needs of the service.
