About the Role
The Security Supervisor oversees, assigns, and evaluates the activities of security personnel, ensuring adherence to department and Henry Ford Health policies and procedures. The role includes performing Security/Security Police Officer duties when necessary, such as responding to calls, writing reports, and providing basic medical assistance. The Supervisor sets a customer service example for shift personnel and completes additional duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Supervise, assign, and evaluate security personnel.
- Ensure compliance with department and organizational policies and procedures.
- Perform duties of a Security/Security Police Officer, including responding to calls for service, writing detailed reports, and providing basic medical assistance.
- Demonstrate and promote excellent customer service skills.
- Conduct thorough and timely investigations and compose detailed reports.
- Assist in budget preparation, workforce planning, and cost/benefit studies.
- Prepare and present concise reports to all levels of management and medical staff.
- Make persuasive presentations to large groups on personal safety matters, including media statements.
- Make critical decisions during life-threatening or crisis situations.
- Complete additional duties and projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in administration, Criminal Justice, or related field and 2-3 years of progressively responsible hospital security experience with at least 1 year in a leadership role.
- OR 5-7 years of progressively responsible hospital security experience, including 1-3 years in a leadership, Field Training Officer, Acting Supervisor, or equivalent role.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn electronic equipment, software, and related tools.
- Understanding of departmental management styles and philosophy.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with diverse groups, including patients, visitors, employees, and physicians.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on customer service and leadership.
- Analytical ability for budget preparation, workforce planning, and cost/benefit studies.
- Ability to prepare and present reports to all levels of management.
- Ability to make critical decisions in crisis situations.
Certifications/Licensures
- Certification under Public Act 330 within the first year of employment or at the first available certification class in the tri-county area.
- Valid, unexpired Concealed Pistol License (CPL).
- Valid, unexpired Michigan operator’s license with an insurable driving record.
