Responsibilities

  • Monitor clinical staff on a daily basis and document any variations from established policy and procedure.
  • Provide appropriate documentation to the Director for verbal and written counseling of staff when necessary.
  • Act as a liaison between clinical staff, nursing, physicians, patients, family members, and hospital leadership.
  • Assist with the orientation of incoming personnel, ensuring all aspects of the department orientation plan are completed.
  • Assist with completing 90-day evaluation documentation for new staff.
  • May assist in developing a monthly work schedule for staff and monitor it daily to optimize staffing levels.
  • Perform direct patient care services and initiate/document patient teaching for families and caregivers.
  • Take call as needed to ensure adequate staffing coverage.
  • Participate in the staff performance appraisal process.
  • Ensure all required preventive maintenance is completed per department policy and arrange for equipment service or additional equipment as needed.
  • Communicate equipment issues to department leadership.
  • Assist with the departmental CQI program, outcomes management projects, and other hospital initiatives.
  • Support the clinical coordinator and director in developing, implementing, and reviewing policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and transmit payroll by 10 AM on payroll Monday.
  • Assist with ordering and maintaining appropriate department stock and participate in yearly inventory as needed.
  • Help identify and organize staff education programs and skills labs.
  • Attend meetings with the Clinical Coordinator/Director or represent them when necessary.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of staff credentials, certifications, and state licenses.
  • Review staff documentation and charging as needed.
  • Represent department leadership in meetings, conference calls, and interviews as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate of a COARC-approved Registered Respiratory Therapy Program.
  • A minimum of two years of clinical experience, including critical care.
  • Active membership in the American Association for Respiratory Care.
  • Current Virginia Licensed Respiratory Therapist.
  • Maintain NBRC credentials for Registered Respiratory Therapist.
  • Current Health Care Provider BLS.
  • Current NRP and PALS (NICU only).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of recent supervisory experience in an active respiratory therapy department.
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • ACCS (Adult Critical Care) Specialty credential.
  • Current ACLS Certification.
  • PFT or RPFT (PFT lab only).
  • STABLE (NICU only).
