About the Location

Morenci operations is an open-pit copper mining complex located approximately 50 miles northeast of Safford, Arizona on U.S. Highway 191. The site has been in continuous operation since 1939 and includes two concentrators, a crushed-ore leach pad and stacking system, a low-grade run-of-mine (ROM) leaching system, four SX plants, and three EW tank houses that produce copper cathode.

Morenci is a company town offering amenities such as company housing or a $750 monthly housing allowance for on-site employees (subject to program guidelines), a newly constructed daycare and community center, library, health-care facilities, state-of-the-art fitness centers, a movie theater, and a skate park. The Parks and Recreation Division organizes activities for all ages.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, coordinate, and control the safe and efficient operation of an assigned work unit.
• Assign, supervise, and review the work of staff; implement production plans according to approved schedules.
• Participate in daily operational duties, performing the most difficult tasks as needed.
• Inspect and evaluate work in progress, identify problem areas, and direct remedial action.
• Conduct performance evaluations on subordinate staff.
• Prepare estimates of staffing, materials, and equipment requirements for projected work activities.
• Maintain inventory of parts and materials; approve purchases of materials and equipment.
• Maintain time, materials, and equipment use reports; requisition tools, supplies, materials, and equipment.
• Train staff in safety procedures and maintain safety data sheets for crews.
• Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED and five (5) years of related operational experience including supervisory or lead experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a technical mining-related discipline with at least one summer internship (or equivalent) in a mining or industrial environment including supervisory or lead experience.
• Candidates may be required to pass a medical exam and all required training/testing.
• Employees may be required to work a non-standard schedule, including shift work (other than day shift) at a 24/7, 365-day operation.
• Freeport-McMoRan promotes a drug/alcohol-free work environment with mandatory pre-employment and ongoing testing.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hydromet TankHouse experience.

Pay

The estimated annual pay range for this role is $87,500 - $120,000 (base salary only). This range is determined by experience, qualifications, skills, and other job-related factors. The role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payments based on company and individual performance.
