Supervisor, General Laboratory I Full-time I Day-Shift
About the role
ChristianaCare is seeking an experienced General Laboratory Supervisor to lead the daily operations of our hospital-based General Laboratory at our Newark Campus. This is an outstanding opportunity for a collaborative laboratory leader who is passionate about developing people, optimizing operations, and ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and service.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily operational leadership for Medical Laboratory Scientists (MLS I & II) and laboratory support staff.
- Serve as the laboratory leader in the absence of the Section Manager.
- Develop staffing schedules and assign daily work to ensure appropriate coverage and efficient workflow across the Newark and Wilmington campuses.
- Monitor laboratory operations throughout the day, proactively adjusting staffing and priorities to maintain productivity, turnaround times, and service excellence.
- Partner with laboratory leadership to improve operational performance, workflow efficiency, and quality outcomes.
- Coach, mentor, and develop team members while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching and feedback, and assist with employee recognition and corrective action when appropriate.
- Cook up orientation, onboarding, competency assessments, continuing education, and training for new and existing employees.
- Participate in recruiting, interviewing, and selecting high-performing laboratory professionals.
- Lead regular staff meetings and communicate departmental initiatives, operational updates, and organizational priorities.
- Promote a culture of safety by ensuring compliance with laboratory, regulatory, and organizational safety standards.
- Absorb quality investigations, variance reporting, quality improvement initiatives, and implementation of corrective actions.
- Support payroll review, scheduling, operational reporting, and laboratory documentation.
- Ensure compliance with CAP, CLIA, Joint Commission, OSHA, and ChristianaCare policies and procedures.
- Lead by example through professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and an unwavering commitment to exceptional patient care.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related laboratory science.
- ASCP certification (or equivalent) as a Medical Laboratory Scientist.
- Minimum of three (3) years of progressive clinical laboratory experience.
- Minimum of one (1) year of supervisory or lead experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage competing priorities, and foster employee engagement in a fast-paced hospital environment.
- Strong communication, critical thinking, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous leadership experience in a hospital-based General or Core Laboratory.
- Experience with quality improvement, workflow optimization, and laboratory operations.
- Working knowledge of CAP, CLIA, Joint Commission, and other applicable regulatory standards.
- Experience developing, mentoring, and coaching laboratory professionals.

Hourly Pay Range: $41.28 - $66.05.
